Chinese Driver Goes Against Traffic and Kills Woman in Prachin Buri Head-On Crash

A Chinese man drove the wrong way down a road and caused a head-on collision in Prachin Buri, killing a Thai woman in the early hours of Saturday, October 17. A second woman was injured in the same crash.
The crash happened on Road 3027 in Tha Tum subdistrict, Si Maha Phot district. Video shared on Thai social media showed a black car driven by the Chinese national travelling against the flow of traffic.
The car kept going for more than 200 metres before it smashed head-on into a white sedan driven by a Thai woman named Sunita. Rescue workers hurried to the scene and spent time pulling her from the wreckage. She reportedly lost consciousness, and rescuers performed CPR, but she did not survive.
A second Thai woman who was riding in the sedan was hurt and taken to a nearby hospital. No update on her condition has been published.
The Chinese driver was travelling with a friend, and both men reportedly suffered minor injuries. Channel 7 reported that the pair appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, although the report did not say whether any alcohol tests had been carried out.
Both men could speak Thai with police, but neither could give a clear account of what had happened. One was taken to hospital for treatment, while the other was brought to a police station for questioning. According to reports, the driver told officers that they had just left an entertainment venue nearby and had not realised they were driving against the traffic.
He reportedly apologised and said he planned to meet the victims' families to offer his condolences.
Police are still gathering evidence and reviewing CCTV footage from the road before deciding what charges the Chinese nationals will face.
